How it works

Skip the DMV. Test from your kitchen table.

Florida allows applicants under 18 to take the official knowledge exam online, proctored by a parent or legal guardian. Here’s how.

01

Complete the prerequisite course first

You must have a completed DETS (under 18) or TLSAE (18+ before Aug 2025) certificate on file. We verify this automatically when you register.

02

Set up the proctor session

Have a parent or legal guardian present. Use any computer with a webcam. We walk you through the form (FLHSMV 71144) during setup.

03

Test, pass, head to the DMV

Answer 50 questions. You need 80% to pass. Passing results are submitted to FLHSMV the same day — visit any DMV office with ID to pick up your physical permit.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions teens and parents ask before testing.

Online proctored testing is new for a lot of families. Here’s what to expect.

This is the Official Florida Class E Knowledge Exam. It is the exact same 50-question test you would take at a DMV or Tax Collector’s office, covering road signs and traffic laws. Because we are a state-authorized provider, passing this online exam fulfills your legal requirement, and your results are automatically reported to the FLHSMV.

For applicants under 18, the exam must be proctored by a parent or legal guardian. The proctor must be present for the duration of the test to ensure integrity. During setup, the parent will acknowledge their role and provide their driver’s license information. You will also need to complete Form HSMV 71144 (Parent Proctoring Form) and have it notarized or signed at the DMV

The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, and you have 60 minutes to complete it. You must score at least 80% (40 out of 50 correct) to pass. If you don’t pass on your first try, don’t panic—your purchase includes one free retake within 30 days.

If you fail the attempt, you can use your free retake after a brief study period. Please note that the FLHSMV limits the total number of online attempts to three. If you are unsuccessful after three online tries, the state requires you to take any future exams in person at a local DMV or Tax Collector’s office.

Yes. While you skip the testing line, you must visit a DMV or Tax Collector’s office in person to:
1. Provide your identity documents (Birth certificate, Social Security card).
2. Pass a brief vision and hearing screening.
3. Have your photo taken and pick up your physical Learner’s Permit.
Tip: Your passing test results will already be in their system electronically!

You can take the exam on any laptop or desktop computer equipped with a webcam and a stable internet connection. The FLHSMV requires a webcam for identity verification and monitoring. Please ensure you are using a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, or Firefox) and do not navigate away from the test window, as doing so will automatically fail the attempt.

Test from home. Pick up your permit tomorrow.
