Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from teens and their parents.

Florida changed the under-18 requirement in 2025 — here’s what you need to know.

Yes. Our 6-hour DETS course is fully approved by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and the FLHSMV. As of August 1, 2025, Florida law requires all first-time drivers under the age of 18 to complete this specific 6-hour curriculum—which replaces the old 4-hour TLSAE course—to be eligible for a learner’s permit.

If your teen completed the 4-hour TLSAE course before August 1, 2025, they are “grandfathered in” and can use that certificate for up to one year from the date of completion. However, if they did not obtain their permit within that year, or if they completed the TLSAE course after August 1, 2025, they must take this new 6-hour DETS course to meet the state’s current licensing requirements.

The course is entirely self-paced. While the state requires a minimum of 6 hours of content, there is no deadline to finish once you start. Your teen can complete the modules in one weekend or spread them out over several weeks. Progress is automatically saved, allowing them to log in and out across any device.

There is no reason to stress. We offer unlimited exam attempts at no additional cost. The course is designed to help students learn and retain the information through interactive sections. If they don’t pass the final exam on the first try, they can simply review the material and retake the test until they succeed.

Absolutely. We provide a Parent Progress Dashboard where you can see which modules your teen has completed in real time. This ensures you can stay involved in their driver education journey and know exactly when they are ready to head to the DMV for their permit.

Once the 6 hours are complete and the exam is passed, we electronically report the results to the FLHSMV immediately. You won’t need to carry a paper certificate to the driver’s license office. Your teen will then be cleared to take the Florida Learner’s Permit Exam (Class E Knowledge Exam), which can also be completed online through our platform.

Six hours online, a weekend at most. By Monday your teen could have a completion certificate and be ready to schedule the permit exam.
