Florida Mature Driver Discount · Age 55+

Florida law guarantees your insurance discount.

If you’re 55 or older and live in Florida, state law requires every auto insurance carrier in the state to lower your premium when you complete an approved mature driver course. The discount is not an offer or a promotion — it’s a statute. Here’s how it works and how to claim it.

Up to 15%

Premium Reduction

Most Florida drivers see between 5% and 15% off their auto insurance premium.

3 Years

Discount Validity

Your discount applies for three full years from the date of completion — every renewal cycle.

6 Hours

Total Course Time

A single state-approved refresher course, completed online at your own pace.

How the Discount Works

Four steps from completion to savings.

The mature driver discount is one of the simplest insurance benefits to claim — but each step matters. Here’s exactly how to go from finishing the course to seeing the lower number on your renewal.

1

Verify your eligibility

Florida law requires you to be 55 or older at the time of course completion. Your driving record does not need to be clean — the discount is tied to age and course completion only.

2

Take the approved course

Complete a six-hour state-approved mature driver course. It can be taken online from home, at your own pace. No driving test, no in-person class.

3

Receive your certificate

Upon completion, you’ll receive a digital certificate by email and a physical certificate by mail. Either format is accepted by your insurance carrier.

4

Submit it to your agent

Send a copy to your insurance agent or upload it through your carrier’s app. The discount applies to your next renewal and runs for the next three years.

Florida State Law

§627.06352

Florida Statute

The discount is required by law — not a courtesy.

Under Florida Statute §627.06352, every auto insurance carrier licensed to sell policies in the state of Florida is required to provide a premium reduction to drivers 55 and over who complete an approved accident prevention course.

This is not an industry promotion or a marketing offer. It is a statutory obligation that applies to every Florida insurer — Geico, State Farm, Allstate, Progressive, AAA, USAA, and every smaller carrier. If your insurer refuses to apply the discount after you submit a valid certificate from an approved provider, that’s a legal compliance issue.
